A Century of Croatian Music for Guitar

A Century of Croatian Music for Guitar presents a panoramic journey through more than one hundred years of Croatian concert repertoire, tracing the evolution of the instrument from early twentieth-century lyricism to contemporary expression. Inspired by Srdjan Bulat’s postgraduate research at the Zagreb Academy of Music, the album brings together works by Slavko Fumić, Miroslav Miletić, Boris Papandopulo, Zoran Juranić, and Berislav Šipuš, revealing a rich yet still underrepresented body of music that stands confidently alongside the finest international guitar literature of its time. Performed on a seven-string guitar, the recording expands the instrument’s colour, resonance, and expressive depth.

More than a historical survey, the album is a personal artistic statement and the culmination of many years dedicated to promoting Croatian composers on international stages. Through these performances, Bulat seeks to preserve a living musical heritage while bringing it vividly to new audiences, affirming the guitar as a powerful voice for both tradition and contemporary creativity.

Timeless Soundscapes

Timeless Soundscapes explores the paradox of music as both a temporal art and a timeless experience. Spanning more than four centuries of repertoire, from John Dowland’s Renaissance lute fantasias to contemporary works and original compositions, the programme creates a dialogue between eras, cultures, and musical languages. Each piece becomes a bridge between past and present, allowing the listener to step outside the flow of time and encounter distant histories through sound.

Rather than a simple collection of works, the album is conceived as a “soundscape”: an environment in which voices, styles, and emotions interact like elements of a living landscape. Preserving the immediacy of live performance, the recording captures a unique concert moment while reflecting on the relationship between the self, the surrounding world, and time itself, inviting listeners to slow down, immerse themselves fully in sound, and experience music as a shared, deeply human space.
